Project Overview

This project involved the comprehensive surveying and floor grinding of a large distribution centre to ensure compliance with operational and safety standards. The primary objective was to address issues with the Material Handling Equipment (MHE) forklift trucks, which were unable to operate at optimal speed due to floor irregularities, posing significant health and safety risks.

Objectives
  1. Conduct a Thorough Floor Survey: To identify floor irregularities and ensure compliance with the TR34 DM1 standard.
  2. Enhance Operational Efficiency: Enable MHE forklift trucks to operate at optimal speed without hindrance.
  3. Ensure Health and Safety Compliance: Mitigate risks associated with uneven flooring for the safety of personnel.
Scope of Work
  • Surveyed Aisles: 48 aisles, each 140 meters in length.
  • Issues Identified: Floor irregularities affecting forklift operation and safety.
Challenges
  • Operational Disruption: The MHE forklift trucks' inability to operate at optimal speeds.
  • Health and Safety Risks: Increased risk of accidents due to uneven flooring.
Efficiency and Cost Savings
  • Faster Completion: The work was completed ahead of schedule, thanks to the efficiency and expertise of Planus Slab Services.
  • Cost Savings: The expedited process resulted in significant cost savings for the client, reducing downtime and enhancing overall productivity.
Conclusion
The successful completion of this project by Planus Slab Services resulted in a significant improvement in both the operational efficiency and safety of the distribution centre. The meticulous survey and grinding process ensured the facility adhered to the TR34 DM1 standard, addressing all floor irregularities and setting a benchmark for future maintenance and operational excellence. The project's swift execution and cost efficiency underscored the value delivered to the client, enhancing their operational capabilities while saving time and money.
The project was surveyed and ground for 5 months, finished February 2024.
